Joyce Atkins: Bush Road
Joyce Atkins, Bush Road
Very little is known about this artist other than Joyce was a local artist to the Canberra area. However when more information is found, the entry will be updated.
Painted in 1972 using oils onto board, the work of art depicts a red gravel path lined by native trees such as gums and other eucaclypts. A series of hills can just be made out in the background as is a clear blue sky. Such a scene as this is easy to picture and explore not very far from Canberra. The iron oxide rich earth clearly present here is typical of Australia and is often the result of harsh desert conditions (where iron oxides are formed) sometime in the area's geological past.
