The Work of Art
Mt Butler by Jeff Makin is a screen-print limited edition from which this is the 62nd of 70.The work was initially produced and published in 1988. With this picture, Jeff has reduced the landscape of Bt Butler into a series of colour blocks and bold brush-strokes. Whereas Jeff is capable of reducing a landscape to its basic ingredients , he can also portray landscapes in remarkably realistic detail a good example is shown below with Cape Pillar Noire. The Mt Butler print is the only representative work by James Makin in the University's Art Collection.
