Cornel Swen, Currawongs at Mt Kosciusko
The Artist and work of art
Cornel is best known for using batik dyes and textiles to form designs often in circular forms. Currawongs at Kosciusko is just such an example. It is made using a batik technique on washi paper to stain and cover areas of the work of art. The resulting effect shows playful if stylised birds against an off-white background. The birds make an interesting geometric pattern. It is a feature common in his other works such as camels depicted below (from a private collection). Cornel's red stamp signature is seen in the lower right.
