Unit Modes of Delivery

Individual units at the University of Canberra may be delivered in multiple modes of delivery and/or locations, within the one teaching period.  For example, a unit in semester 1 may be delivered online, on-campus, at Canberra and at Melbourne.

Each mode of delivery has a title in the student management system Callista that describes the mode.  These modes are published on the unit website, and map to government reporting modes of delivery.

Students enrol against a unique mode of delivery/location combination.  There should be a unit outline that reflects each combination, describing information that is unique to it.  with UCLearn teaching sites are assigned to each unique mode of delivery/location combination but may be combined.

Each mode of delivery/location combination must be equivalent to all others of the unit in terms of content and assessment.  Each must ensure that normal expectations for student workload (150 hours of engagement per 3cp) are maintained.

The University of Canberra has adopted six main modes of delivery for its units, with additional titles to be used for units with specialist requirements.

Unit Modes of Delivery List (DOCX)

In the context below 'on-campus' will be determined by the unit offering's location of delivery and might be Canberra, another Australian location or an offshore location.

It is anticipated that modes of delivery mapping to the government code of 'Internal' will be designed by unit conveners to meet the face-to-face definitions in the ESOS requirements.  Government codes have been suggested on this basis.

There are particular approval processes for changing a mode of delivery:

  1. Each Faculty will designate an appropriate academic role for approving adding or changing modes of delivery and/or offerings such as Dean, Associate Dean (Education), Head of Discipline or academic course convener/contact;
  2. The Faculty business/general manager be the point of contact to convey the above decision to the Student Progress unit (this is suggested to ensure the appropriate approvals have been gained); and
  3. Student Progress will action the addition/change on appropriately approved advice from the Faculty.

Regular review of unit offerings and modes of delivery will be initiated by Student Progress as per current practice.
