Dr Caroline Fisher


Dr Caroline Fisher

Course Convenor for Journalism and winner of a Teaching Excellence Award, Dr Caroline Fisher is a popular teacher in the Faculty of Arts and Design.

Dr Fisher has led a successful career in media, as a reporter, presenter and producer for ABC News and Radio National, as well as working as a ministerial media advisor for the Queensland Government.

With a PhD focussed on the career transition between journalism and parliamentary media advising, and countless research publications, Dr Fisher is a true expert in her field.

Dr Barbara Walsh

Corporate and Public Communication

Dr Barbara Walsh

Senior Lecturer in Communication, Associate Dean in International and Work Integrated Learning, Dr Barbara Walsh has a wealth of teaching knowledge across the Corporate and Public Communication Program, from first years through to graduating students in industry capstone units.

Prior to becoming an academic, Dr Walsh had a 25-year career in public relations and corporate communications. This included working as an account director for public relations consultancies in Sydney and London, managing her own consultancy in Sydney for several years and managing corporate communications branches in senior-level director and general manager roles in Australian federal public service agencies in Canberra.

Dr Cathy Hope


Dr Cathy Hope

Assistant Professor of Communications and winner of the 2013 Vice Chancellor's Excellence Award for Equity and Diversity, Dr Cathy Hope is a highly experienced communications professional.

Since joining UC, she has held multiple roles in the promotion and development of education, engagement, access and the student experience, and she currently serves on many education and student experience committees within the University.

Dr Hope is dedicated to assisting students to succeed at university, particularly those from regional and first-in-family backgrounds. As first year liaison officer she works closely with students during the sometimes difficult transition period from school and work to university.

Previous to taking up academia, Dr Hope was the chief film and travel reviewer for The Canberra Review, a freelance writer for the Rolling Stone, a film programmer for The Canberra International Film Festival, and co-director of the Canberra Short Film Festival.
