Honour your love of health science with unique research

If your ambition is to investigate a specific area of health from a research perspective, this Honours degree will see you develop the high-level academic and strategic thinking needed to successfully complete an original research project. This one-year full-time course can also be studied part-time, allowing you to balance study with your other commitments.

Across the Research Planning coursework unit, you’ll undertake practical training in research skills specifically relevant to health, and will develop appropriate methodology for your planned project, covering question formulation, sampling procedures, research approaches, ethical considerations, technical writing and more. You’ll then put your skills to the test executing a research project in your chosen area of health, before communicating your findings in thesis form. At the conclusion of your studies, you’ll graduate as a confident health research professional, ready to embark on a career in the health industry as a research officer, senior administrator or beyond.

Study a Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) at UC and you will:

  • source, review and critically appraise research in your chosen health discipline
  • independently plan, design and execute a research project to a high-level industry standard, including its methodology, data collection, analysis, ethics considerations and grant proposal
  • devise specific research questions to address a selected research focus
  • communicate the results of an independent research project in a form acceptable to your field of study.

WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING

During your Honours year, you’ll complete an individual supervised research project which explores a real-world health issue, culminating in a thesis of between 10,000 and 12,000 words. You’ll learn valuable research skills aimed at helping you in your future career, including the processes of topic definition, literature review, research design, and data collection and analysis.
