Study Abroad Orientation
Each semester begins with two mandatory orientation sessions specifically for study abroad and exchange students. These sessions are held on the Monday and Tuesday of O-week (Orientation Week). During O-week you will be introduced to the University, Canberra, and life as a UC student. We will assist you in getting your student card, OSHC card, enrolling in subjects, choosing your timetable, and finding your way around campus. Information sessions are offered on all aspects of student life and many Orientation activities are planned for your enjoyment. You might join us for a welcome party, a genuine Aussie BBQ, a photo scavenger hunt or one of many other offerings.
The orientation week schedule will be sent to all commencing study abroad and exchange students by e-mail before the start of the semester. As a study abroad or exchange student, it is very important that you refer to this guide so you don't miss out on important events just for you that are not included in the main university guide.
After orientation, the UC Global Learning Team will continue to assist you with your study program and be on hand to provide any other assistance or advice you may need.
Before you even arrive, you will have the opportunity to join a Facebook group set up specifically for students coming to UC during your semester to share any questions or uncertainties. This gives you the chance to meet other students and share ideas prior to arrival. The UC Global Learning Team will monitor the site to ensure the validity of content. During the semester, this Facebook group is often used for event planning and RSVPs between students and with the office.
Airport & Bus Pick Up Service
The University offers a free reception service, so you don't need to worry about getting from Canberra's airport, bus or train stations to your new accommodation.
You need to fill in the online request form at least 5 working days (does not include weekends or Australian public holidays) prior to your arrival to take advantage of this service. University of Canberra representatives will meet you at the airport, bus or railway station, and take you safely to your new home.
