If you are looking for a short overseas study opportunity other than UC's signature Faculty Led Programs an independent short program is a great alternative. These programs allow you to study and travel over your winter, summer breaks and have the potential to gain UC credit for open electives and even core unit requirements.

Please contact the UC Study Abroad Office to inform us of your plans so we can assist you thought the application process, provide you with a pre-departure information session and extend the University's travel insurance to cover your program.

How to Find an Independent Short Program

A number of different universities and providers offer independent short programs for credit, however the UC Study Abroad Team want to highlight a couple of great options

Types of Short Term Programs

AIM Overseas is an external provider that offers professional, all-inclusive short-term programs world-wide, running for 3-4 weeks. The programs cover most UC disciplines and are tried and tested by UC students with positive reviews. Programs often include cultural excursion and weekend trips in addition to academic components.

Aim Overseas programs are typically suitable for 1 UC Unit at 3 credit points and the UC Study Abroad Office will assist you in seeking approval from your academic area.

CIS Australia is an external provider that is dedicated to providing Australians innovative, high quality overseas study, intern and volunteer experiences while promoting global awareness, inspiring personal growth and developing engaged world citizens.The programs cover most UC disciplines and are tried and tested by UC students with positive reviews. Programs often include cultural excursion and weekend trips in addition to academic components.

CIS Australia programs are typically suitable for 1 or 2 UC Units at 3 or 6 credit points and the UC Study Abroad Office will assist you in seeking approval from your academic area.

When researching available programs please take care to review the reputation of the providing institution/company, select a destination with a DFAT security rating of 2 or less and you will be provided with an academic transcript upon completion.

Please note, that it is imperative that you speak with the UC Study Abroad Office prior to applying for independent programs to ensure credit approval has been given and the program is suitable.
