For the remainder of 2020, resulting from Australian Government's directives requiring physical distancing and restrictions on movement because of the COVID-19 pandemic, any exams that are required for assessment in a unit will be online exams. Students will undertake a major design research project in this studio that explores current issues and challenges that are faced in urban and suburban Australia. The project requirements include the establishment of defendable design solutions to suit environmental, social, political, and other issues. Assessment of design solutions are assisted by a professional jury.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate strong research skills;

2. Employ appropriate and creative methods to analyse, interpret, and represent space and place;

3. Demonstrate an understanding of design and planning issues and opportunities in Australian cities;

4. Generate innovative and practical designs at the conceptual level, and develop those designs to a professional level; and

5. Demonstrate professional oral, written and visual communication skills.
