For the remainder of 2020, resulting from Australian Government's directives requiring physical distancing and restrictions on movement because of the COVID-19 pandemic, any exams that are required for assessment in a unit will be online exams. This unit provides an introduction to the educational workplace through the eyes of an educator. The unit will provide an introduction to the culture, structure and organisation of educational workplaces and investigate the roles of people whose professional lives focus on helping others to learn. Through participation in 10 days of placement in a workplace, students will develop and utilise the skills of observation and reflection to analyse and interpret the many facets of educational workers and their workplace. Workplaces will largely be schools, but will also include community and cultural centres in the ACT region.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Knowledgeably discuss the structures, organisation and participants in typical educational workplaces;

2. Demonstrate familiarity with the typical roles and responsibilities of education workers; and

3. Demonstrate thoughtful analysis of an educational workplaces culture, practices and behaviours following direct observation.
