This unit introduces students to statistical techniques in education and for education. The focus of the unit is the collection, description and analysis of data with an emphasis on exploratory and graphical methods using a statistical computer package. Topics include surveys and experiments; tables and graphs; measures of location and dispersion; basic probability; hypothesis testing; and linear regression modelling.
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1: Use statistical methods to collect and describe data;
2: Use statistical methods to generalise from samples to populations; and
3: Read, analyse and interpret statistical information in a variety of relevant contexts.
