This 6 credit point unit is a capstone to the four year degree. Students will examine issues experienced by beginning teachers, bringing together knowledge and understandings developed in their previous years of study and professional experience. Students will develop improved skills and understanding needed to resolve problem scenarios in educational settings. The results and reporting of investigations will form the basis of a celebratory poster conference.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Identify and analyse authentic problems or issues facing beginning teachers in an educational context;

2. Propose solutions to problems/issues based on a synthesis of knowledge, experience and a critical evaluation of alternatives;

3. Demonstrate skills of problem identification and the generation of potential solutions through collaboration with peers; and

4. Appraise the work of their peers and provide meaningful feedback.
