Syllabus

In this unit students will be introduced to the contexts of the health industry. Drawing on the World Health Organizations' Primary Health Care approach, as outlined in the Alma Ata Declaration (1978), The Ottawa Charter (1986) and the Millennium Development Goals.

Learning Outcomes

On the successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate (gain) a broad understanding of the contexts of the health industry;

2. Examine various charters to develop an understanding of primary health care approaches; and

3. Discuss theories of health care to promote health activities and professional practice.
