This unit critically explores the traditional and the innovative in educational practice and their impact on learning. Global theories and views that influence decisions about the design and development of learning will be examined. The unit will explore how educational practices can be designed and evaluated for quality learning outcomes. Case studies will cover all levels of education from school, vocational education, adult and higher education.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will have:

1. Displayed understanding of the complexity of the learning environment and its impact on educational practice, design and evaluation;

2. Critically examined global views and theories of effective educational practice based upon an analysis of relevant international literature;

3. Compared and contrasted the effectiveness of educational practices in different educational settings; and

4. Critically appraised educational practices in their own context and have recommended new or innovative practice to improve learning.
