Syllabus
In this Studio, three cumulative exercises explore the architectonics of line, plane, and volume. Using horizontal and vertical movement students will investigate the perceptual dimension of object in the field. The formal and spatial potentialities of linear, planar, and volumetric compositions are underscored for an understanding of courtyard and tower typologies.
This unit is co-taught with Design Communications.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of design issues involved with a small scale architectural type;
2. Explain design strategies that explore circulation with form, volume, and purpose; and
3. Interpret design concepts in response to site and orientation.
