Syllabus

What defines a creative career? And what defines success in the creative industries? At the heart of a successful, creative career there are key business principles and processes that the student must understand and successfully implement in order to manifest commercial success in alignment with a creative vision. In this unit the student is introduced to these principles and practices through a series of individual and collaborative, creative scenarios. The aim is to familiarise the student with standard business practices, concepts of business ethics, problem solving, networking, brainstorming, collaborative decision making and persuasive communication techniques, in an exciting and creative work environment. The unit promotes independent creative thinking and group discussion and further aims to develop concepts explored in The Creative Life unit into tangible, practical processes.

Learning Outcomes

DESCRIPTION:

1. Upon successful completion of this unit, students will be able to: Apply and analyse business planning processes in a creative context;

2. Identify, research and critically analyse information relevant to a business problem or issue, be able to synthesise that information in order to evaluate potential solutions, make recommendations or otherwise effectively address the problem or issue;

3. Apply ethical reasoning, standards or codes of practice relevant to the discipline and make decisions that are informed by social and cultural understanding; and

4. Employ sustainable industry structures and business practices in a creative context.
