This unit introduces students to the fundamental concepts and influential theories in personality psychology. This unit introduces the major perspectives on personality (including dispositional, psychoanalytic, behaviourist, cognitive, and humanistic perspectives). Both traditional and contemporary theories and research in the area of personality are examined and evaluated.
On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Identify the issues surrounding the nature and measurement of personality;
2. Understand the properties of good psychological tests; and
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the major theories of personality.
