Syllabus
An overview of the field of abnormal psychology will be provided. The unit will address the aetiological theories of abnormal psychology, as well as the epidemiological distribution, symptom presentation, course and prognosis of major psychological disorders. Specific focus will be given to the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders, as well as the role of research in understanding the development, identification, prevention and intervention approaches within abnormal psychology. Students will be encouraged to consider the psychological disorders they study in the societal and cultural contexts within which they occur.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge of psychological disorders, including symptoms, presentation, aetiology, research and assessment methods, and treatment approaches.
