Syllabus
This is the capstone unit for the Bachelor of Communication in Journalism. In this unit. Staff will facilitate students' participation in a semester-long journalism project, which may be run in conjunction with local media organizations. Students will be called on to demonstrate the capacities they have developed as skilled and reflective practitioners of journalism, and also their creativity, adaptability and ability to work to deadline driven goals in small teams. Projects will involve students in working across a range of media platforms.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. demonstrate capacities as skilled, reflective, versatile practitioners of journalism;
2. demonstrate development of insight into the process of initiating and completing a complex journalism project for public broadcast and/or publication;
3. employ a range of skills and theoretical understanding they have gained over the course of their journalism studies;
4. demonstrate aptitude in applying their training in producing journalism for different media platforms;
5. demonstrate skills in alternating between working individually and in small teams, and between following their own initiative and working under editorial direction.
