Syllabus

This unit will introduce students to the Australian health system and the role of the pharmacy profession. Students will learn about factors influencing the supply and availability of medicines. Students will develop an ability to calculate medicine doses and dosage regimens accurately. Preparation will occur for a placement occurring during Winter Term.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. understand and describe the role of the pharmacist in the Australian health system and the regulations governing pharmacist practice;

2. explain the role of the pharmacist in medicines supply;

3. perform basic pharmaceutical calculations;

4. meet the requirements for participating in placements during the BPharm course.
