Syllabus

This unit provides professional placement experience in the clinical setting. Students will be given the opportunity to develop competency in dietetic case management of individuals and small groups, and to demonstrate competency in work management skills and professional ethics. On successful completion of this unit students will have demonstrated competency related to clinical dietetics as described by the DAA 2015 National Competency Standards for Dietitians in Australia.

Learning Outcomes

DESCRIPTION:

1. Collect, interpret and assess data necessary to make an appropriate diagnose/s and prioritise care;

2. Develop and implement interventions and monitor and evaluate outcomes in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team including the client and carer/s;

3. Use dietetic knowledge, communication skills and client-centred counselling to facilitate and empower individuals to make nutrition, behaviour and lifestyle change and self manage their health;

4. Demonstrate a professional, ethical and evidenced based approach to advocating for excellence in nutrition and dietetics.

Contact Hours

This is a 10 week full-time clinical placement program that is conducted in a range of work settings as specified by the dietetics accrediting body Dietitians Association of Australia. The contact commitment is 9am to 5pm, 5 days a week for the full 10 weeks in 2 x 5 week blocks. The clinical dietetics placement unit includes academic analysis work drawing upon nutrition and dietetics theory and requires in-depth case analysis in a range of assessment tasks as specified by DAA. It is not possible or practical for students to complete other units (on-campus or off-campus) while completing this intensive program.

9297 Clinical Dietetics 1 PG, 9298 Clinical Dietetics 2 PG, 8250 Counselling and Communication for Dietitians PF and 8660 Food Service Management PG.
