Syllabus
In this unit students will undertake an examination of the ways in which gender informs women's health and health concerns. By reading widely across a range of literature pertinent to women and health, students will develop an increased understanding of how women's health extends beyond an absence of disease into every aspect of their daily lives. In this unit students will explore the issues of achieving gender and social equality in order to meet the unique health needs of women. The contemporary experience of women as recipients of health care across the life span will be analysed and multiple approaches to health care for women examined.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Produce a comprehensive examination of literature in relation to women's health and wellbeing;
2. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of feminist standpoints as they relate to women's health issues; and
3. Propose initiatives focused on the health of women within a healthcare setting ranging from local to global.
