This unit is designed to increase the communicative competence of students in the Mandarin Chinese language through written discussion of authentic print and electronic materials from Chinese-speaking societies. Translation skills will cover translating English passages into Chinese and vice versa. The unit covers a range of topics relevant to the Australian society and to each student's professional orientation.
- By the end of the Advanced Chinese B unit, students will be able to recognise and write 3000 commonly used Chinese characters used in a variety of fields of study. They would also be able to translate simple passages from English into Chinese and vice versa.
Three hours per week consisting of 1 lecture and 2 tutorials.
Chinese 3 (part B) or equivalent (consult with unit convener).
