    Syllabus

This unit explores the notion of social spaces. Social spaces are places that provide education, leisure, convenience, rest, recuperation, indulgence and competition. They include schools, hotels, motels, resorts, bars, cafes, restaurants, playgrounds, sports arenas and other spaces where we interact socially. This unit introduces what is required to design social spaces, and includes developing an understanding of the industries that use these spaces. Students will be introduced to a broad understanding of the spatial, social and ethical dimensions of designing for the future needs and changing patterns of social space, and then focus on a particular type of these spaces to test their learning.
