    Syllabus

    This unit addresses working spaces. It explores the concept of the working environment and the influences that have and will change its design including the knowledge economy, new technologies, global trends and new work practices. The focus of this unit is on working environments and the considerations and strategies involved in the design of new models that take account of digital technology, personal mobility, carbon footprint, pleasure at work, and environmental self-regulation. The unit also considers how design must satisfy corporations and workers. These considerations include corporate image and culture, planning, growth, management, work processes, demand for workplace flexibility, adaptability and sustainability.

    Learning Outcomes

    1. use a range of conceptual design methodologies and skills related to the design of working spaces
    2. demonstrate an understanding of the impact of the knowledge economy, new technologies, global trends and new work practices on working environments
    3. demonstrate concepts of spatial thinking and the skills used to represent these concepts
    4. critically evaluate the demands of corporations and workers in designing workplace flexibility, adaptability and sustainability

    Contact Hours

    Up to six hours per week consisting of lectures/studio/workshop. This unit may include field trips of up to two days.
