    Syllabus

    The unit investigates how design impacts on the experiences for living in the home. It explores the principles of sustainable living and wellbeing using the design of the domestic interior as the focus. The unit covers both global concerns and local approaches to the design of domestic space. An historic, philosophical, and analytical understanding of both house and home is developed, so that new living models can be designed to usefully contribute to the health and wellbeing of the users.

    Learning Outcomes

    DESCRIPTION:

    1. Use a range of conceptual design methodologies and skills related to living in the home;

    2. demonstrate a clear historical, philosophical, and analytical understanding of both house and home;

    3. demonstrate concepts of spatial thinking and the skills used to represent these concepts; and

    4. critically analyse space and human environments and evaluate the effectiveness of a design from multiple perspectives

    Up to six hours per week consisting of lectures/studio/workshop.

    Skills gained in unit; Design Studio 1.2 (Interior Architecture).
