    Syllabus

    This unit investigates the design of complex urban settings. It explore the qualities of urban life and the urban landscapes we inhabit and how these should be designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals, communities and the environment. In this unit students engage with urban design theory, fieldwork, landscape analysis and concept development to realise informed, responsive and creative urban design proposals. Students work in groups and individually to complete complex projects which are resolved at a range of scales.

    DESCRIPTION:

    1. Design within an urban context.

    2. Synthesise a complex range of spatial scales and conceptual issues.

    3. Demonstrate critical engagement with current urban design theory, issuesand opportunities.

    4. Communicate effectively using design panels, digital presentation, models and verbal presentations to a professional standard.

    Prerequisites

    Design Studio 3.1 (Landscape Architecture);and Landscape Systems.

    Assumed Knowledge

    Competent skills in composing design graphics in a digital environment; competent CAD drafting and editing skills; advanced report writing skills.
