Syllabus
Theoretical, historical and constitutional aspects;International Labour Organisation and international labour standards;Sources of the Employment Relationship - Common Law, Statute, Awards and Agreements;Content of the Employment Relationship;Termination and Remedies - Unfair Dismissal; Collective Bargaining, Trade Unions and Industrial Action; Structures of Appeal and Adjudication; Special Issues in Employment Law - equal opportunity,security, privacy and identity at work, occupational health and safety law, workers compensation law.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Discuss current issues in the Australian workplace;
2. Identify and discuss the sources of employment law in Australia;
3. Understand the framework of rights and obligations applying to employees and employers; and
4. Critically analyse key contemporary issues in employment law.
