Syllabus
This unit is an introduction to the principles and techniques of cinematography. Through lectures and practical exercises students are introduced to studio and location lighting, video camera set up and operation, camera movement, visual story telling, and personal and group occupational health and safety issues as they pertain to studio and location movie production. Students will further develop observational skills through the discussion of light, shadow, contrast and colour.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of video camera and lens operation;
2. Operate safely within a motion picture production environment;
3. Analyse cinematographic productions for technique and story content;
4. Produce story telling images; and
5. Critically observe, analyse and translate between real world lighting and motion picture lighting.
