    Syllabus

    In this unit you will develop a conceptual and practical ability to deal with complex mainframe application development, particularly for systems involving user interactions and inter-process communication. You will consider application development in the context of the system lifecycle including application installation, update and customisation. You will work in small groups to undertake design and development work. You will also study issues, including ethical issues, in coordinating and managing system development, testing and maintenance in a corporate IT mainframe environment including coping with conflicting demands.

    Learning Outcomes

    1. to design and develop complex, multi-program applications, including the use of inter-process communication. You will be able to discuss and evaluate issues in user interface design as they relate to user requirements. You will be able to discuss and evaluate strategies for managing the development of complex systems, including issues related to group work and ethics.
    2. You will be able to demonstrate, discuss your ability in this regard, including your ability to develop test methodologies and strategies for the quality assurance of these complex applications.
