Mainframe Application Development 1 (7855.3)
|Level:||Level 2 - Undergraduate Intermediate Unit|
|Faculty:||Faculty of Education, Science, Technology & Maths|
|Discipline:||Academic Program Area - Maths & Technology|
In this unit you will study procedural programming using COBOL. You will gain sufficient theory and practice in procedural computer programming to enable further studies in application development. You will gain theoretical knowledge of and practical experience in how to design, code, test, debug, publish and run COBOL programs in a mainframe enterprise environment. You will learn naming conventions, testing strategies, how to describe data types and data structures, and how to develop report programs. You will use technical review processes for quality assurance in software development.
- to maintain, develop and debug COBOL programs which interact with datasets and databases, and generate reports in a mainframe environment and demonstrate your ability in this regard. You will be able to employ good programming principles and explain why these principles are important.
- You will be able to apply practical strategies to testing and debugging programs including in a mainframe environment. You will be able to undertake technical review processes using small group processes.
52 hours per semester.
