For the remainder of 2020, resulting from Australian Government's directives requiring physical distancing and restrictions on movement because of the COVID-19 pandemic, any exams that are required for assessment in a unit will be online exams. Students will undertake a supervised counselling placement in an approved agency, and attend field seminars on professional issues and participate in small group supervision of their counselling practice on campus.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Apply their theoretical knowledge and counselling skills to practice with clients in a counselling agency;

2. Analyse the influence of organisational and social contexts on counselling practice;

3. Analyse and critique their use of counselling skills and theoretical interventions;

4. Demonstrate their capacity to participate in small group supervision of their practice; and

5. Demonstrate ethical decision making about their counselling practice.

Assessment Items

Contact Hours

Thirty two hours including 24 hours of small group supervision (max 6 students) on campus; and 260 hours in a counselling placement within an appropriate agency.
