In this unit, students will develop a sound model for ethical and professional counselling practice. Students will develop skills in ethical decision making and sensitivity to the operation of power and privilege in professional counselling relationships. Professional issues such as boundaries, dual roles and client safety will be analysed in the context of research and relevant ethical codes of practice. Students will critically analyse the processes of counselling credentialing and accreditation in the Australian context.

Learning Outcomes

  1. I. to demonstrate a sound knowledge of ethical codes and models of ethical decision making and apply these to complex and challenging practice situations
  2. II. to demonstrate an ability to apply ethical and professional practice principles in their counselling practice
  3. III. to articulate the implications of ethical codes and principles for their own professional development and competence
