Managing the Online Environment PG (7607.4)

This unit will provide students with a comprehensive and well rounded view of issues involved in managing an organisations online presence. These will include preparing internet strategies, standards and policy, resourcing, online marketing, content retrieval, online communication and social. It will present online management as a complex, multifaceted undertaking that is critical to any organisations strategic and business objectives. It will also provide the opportunity for students to research a particular online issue in depth.
1. identify the major components of the online environment that require management eg. information architecture, discovery of information, interface design, standards.
2. recognise the importance of an organisation?s web site and describe the technologies that can be used to support the management of the anisation?s online presence eg. site statistics packages, search engines, etc.
3. apply internet tools and techniques to marketing strategy and its implementation.
4. present detailed, researched reports, policies and recommendations in any aspect of online management.
