    Physiological, acoustic and linguistic bases for speaker recognition; signal processing for speaker recognition; text-dependent and text-independent speaker recognition; Gaussian mixture model and hidden Markov model for speaker recognition; signal processing for face recognition; eigenface, 2D-HMM and elastic graph models for face recognition; recognition of the speaking face, liveness verification; Bayesian decision framework, prior and posterior probabilities, likelihood ratio; forensic speaker and face recognition, role of the independent expert.

    Learning Outcomes

    (

    1) An understanding of the physical and behavioural bases of speaker recognition and face recognition.

    (2) an understanding of the signal processing and feature modelling principles for speaker recognition and face recognition.

    (3) an understanding of the Bayesian decision framework for speaker recognition and face recognition.

    (4) an understanding of the role of the independent expert in a forensic context.
