Syllabus

This unit provides an introduction to psychopathology, including differentiation between major psychological disorders. Aetiological theories of psychopathology will be addressed. Specific focus will be given to the diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders, and to the societal and cultural contexts within which they occur.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, students will:

1. Identify the major psychological disorders and be able to differentiate between them;

2. Describe and apply theory and research related to causes and treatments of psychological disorders;

3. Comprehend the principles of assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychological disorders; and

4. Apply principles of diagnosis and treatment to a case study.
