    Syllabus

    This subject examines the role of communication in organisational settings. The key theoretical positions are examined, from classical to cultural and critical approaches, with an emphasis on the relationship between theory and method of study as well as the link between theory and application in the workplace. It focuses on the role of organisational culture and technological and global influences in shaping communication processes within organisations and between organisations and their environments. Organisational processes such as socialisation, decision-making, conflict management, organisational change, social support and diversity management will be discussed.

    Learning Outcomes

    1. apply key theoretical approaches to organisational communication; understand the nature of organisational communication processes in a changing global and technological environment; understand cross-cultural organisational contexts; demonstrate interpersonal and written communication skills; demonstrate analytical skills in research and problem solving.
