Syllabus
This unit will give the students a practical foundation in news and current affairs reporting for radio, and an understanding of the role of audio in converged newsrooms in the digital age. Special emphasis will be placed on research, writing, interview technique and production. Students will also examine and engage with contemporary challenges facing journalism and the media industry, such as audience engagement via social media.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. students will develop the basic research, interviewing, writing and production skills required of radio news journalists, including recording, editing and voice work;
2. students will be introduced to some of the basic skills required of radio current affairs and features journalists/broadcasters;
3. students will develop an understanding of the structures, policies and practices of the digital broadcast industry, including emerging roles in community engagement via social media.
