The main emphases in this unit are the theory and practice of software engineering. This unit mainly focuses on risk, scope, time, quality and project management. Students will work in small teams to plan (define, estimate, schedule) and manage an appropriate set of activities to ultimately deliver a software product according to the client requirements. Through appropriate choice and implementation of activities associated with each phase, demonstrate a sound understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).Co-ordinate and develop presentations, including demonstrations, to an audience of peers, clients and supervisors. This unit also gives special attention to research based approach (especially learning journals).
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1.Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct and meet legal responsibilities that delivers measurable value to an industry or university client;
2. Apply software engineering methods and contemporary software development tools to the design, implementation, verification, and deployment of a software system to meet client needs;
3. Communicate expertly with project stakeholders, and function as an effective member or leader of a development team in project development, deployment, and evaluation activities;
4. Manage time, processes and resources with initiative and judgement by prioritising competing demands to achieve personal and team goals; and
5. Apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan and execute a piece of research with some independence and be able to critically evaluate assumptions and arguments.
