The link between culture and discourse is crucial for intercultural understanding. The unit is therefore intended for students who seek to make this link and expect to encounter cultural diversity in the course of their current studies at the University and/or in their professional lives. Through a program of critical reading, discussion and practical and analytical tasks, the unit probes intercultural differences in written and spoken discourse, with special attention given to instances where miscommunication may arise and where solutions and compromises may be found.
