This unit aims to introduce students to the complex body of knowledge and professional practice relating to two important and closely related areas of human resource management practice (reward and performance management) and to ensure students understand relevant theory and practice in how these two inter-related HR practice areas directly influence individual, work group and organisational performance. The focus is on how organisations effectively shape employee behavior and strengthen performance and how this can lead to more effective organisational performance.
After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Critically analyse a complex body of theoretical knowledge relating to the challenges that managers face in shaping behaviour and strengthening performance of the workforce in a variety of organisational contexts including developments in this field of study.
2. Evaluate and apply dimensions of the competencies and behaviours relevant to a HR professional or senior manager in shaping the behaviour and strengthening the performance of the workforce.
3. Reflect critically on the characteristics of effective practice for shaping the behaviour and strengthening the performance of the workforce and identify how this relates to employee wellbeing and effective individual and organisational performance.
4. Assess and apply skill and sound ethical principles and use of an array of HR metrics in evidence-based decision-making associated with shaping the behaviour and strengthening the performance of the workforce.
5. Critically review a complex body of knowledge including recent developments in relation to the factors driving organisational change, changes in the future of work and the workforce that have implications for workforce management.
6. Integrate industry research in shaping the behaviour and strengthening the performance of the workforce in a selected organisational context that enhances employee wellbeing and job performance.
7. Present with skill and creativity the results of research and analysis of organisational HRM capability in a dynamic business context.
8. Demonstrate a high level of personal autonomy and accountability.

On-Campus Attendance (Expected) and Online Content (ON-CAMPUS)
- Theory and Concept Submissions (60 marks in total. 15 marks for each Theory and Concept Submission )
- The Case Study (20 marks )
- Reflective Analysis (20 marks in total. 10 marks for the critique of theory on reflective practice and 10 marks for the application of this theory to the student's reflection on their learning in this Unit. )

Three hours of an on-campus interactive workshop and an online lecture per week.
