Syllabus

The unit provides students with a general understanding of the relationship between language and society. It raises students' sensitivity of the social and cultural factors that inform language teaching and learning.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Recognise the complexity of language use in society;

2. Explain the relevance of sociolinguistic topics to their professional practice as language teachers; and

3. Apply their knowledge and skills creatively in their professional practice in language teaching and learning.
