This unit is the culminating experience for initial teacher education students within the Master of Primary Teaching. The unit provides the final school-based experience of 20 days within a Primary school setting. This 20 day capstone experience will allow pre-service teachers to apply their professional skills and to carry out an investigation of a personally chosen topic in an educational context. Furthermore, the pre-service teachers will be assessed against the Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA) that will require them to provide evidence that demonstrates that they are classroom ready.
After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate autonomy, expert judgement, adaptability and responsibility in planning, decision making and curriculum engagement;
2. Apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan and execute an investigative project regarding a real school issue; and
3. Demonstrate that they are competent pre-service teachers who are classroom ready and well prepared to enter the profession by satisfying evidence based achievement of the TPA.
One 1 hour lecture and 2-3 hours of tutorials or workshops on campus per week.
This unit is only available to students in the Master of Primary Teaching course who have passed 36 credit points.
