This capstone unit provides an opportunity for graduates to apply knowledge and understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodologies relevant to social research in a small-scale project. In consultation with the unit convener, students will design and conduct a small-scale study aligned with education or social sciences research.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Design a small-scale research project;

2. Demonstrate understanding of sound data collection and analysis procedures; and

3. Present outcomes of independent research to an academically informed audience.

Contact Hours

Six hours of interactive workshops and independent study on campus per week.


Must have passed 36 credit points in the course including 9087 Education Research Perspectives PG.

Students are advised to take this unit in their final semester of study.



Assumed Knowledge

Students will require foundational understanding of broader principles of social research before undertaking this unit.
