Road Design (10252.1)
|Level:||Level 3 - Undergraduate Advanced Unit|
|Faculty:||Faculty of Arts and Design|
|Discipline:||School of Design and the Built Environment|
In this unit students investigate the requirements of road design; solve calculations associated with road alignments, both horizontal and vertical; and design intersections at grade. Students will model their road design using current Civil Design Computer Application Software and justify their design with visual document presentation in the form of industry standard drawings and models.
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Evaluate current industry practices and standards to design road alignments, intersections and cul-de-sacs;
2. Validate the road design by modelling it in an industry standard road design terrain modelling software; and
3. Produce appropriate visual documentation for the road design to required industry standards.
3 hours per week, consisting of 1 hour lecture and 2 hour workshop.
