The integration of robotic systems with artificial intelligence will produce a new generation of workers and companions; it is no longer the "stuff" of science fiction, but rather a scientific reality! This niche major in Robotics and AI will exploit the synergies between these two areas. The major will offer a grounding in intelligent systems and the chance to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting. The students will have the opportunity to have an intensive, extended work-integrated learning experience, in addition to the capstone project, which will allow them to hone their practical expertise in AI and robotics engineering. With access to humanoid robots, robotic arms, mobile robotic platforms and other technology, the graduates will develop the specialist knowledge and skills demanded by employers in the fast-growing AI and robotic industries, which is also relevant to the wider range of applications needing automation and artificial intelligence, including autonomous and mechatronic systems in manufacturing and healthcare.
Basic knowledge and skills in ICT (Information and Communication Technology) basic numeracy and literacy skills for Beginning (1) level units in this unit set, and completion of some of the Beginning (1) level ITS Core Major units for Intermediate (2) and Advanced (3) level units in this unit set.
Specialist majors are only available to students in the course for which the major is required.
- Required - Must pass 18 credit points as follows
Restricted Choice - Must pass 6 credit points from the following
- any units offered by the School of Information Technology & Systems, with at least 3 credit points at Advanced (3) level, including the following units:
- 7170 - Software Technology 2 - 3 cp, Level 2
- 7899 - Information Sciences Internship - 3 cp, Level 3
- 10152 - Information Sciences Internship (Extended) - 3 cp, Level 3
- 11480 - Advances in Information Sciences and Engineering - 3 cp, Level 3
- 1. Restricted Choice units should be chosen to either meet the prerequisites of the units in the Major or to complement Major units for a better learning outcome.
- 2. Students who have not studied 7170 Software Technology 2 in other Majors should choose this unit instead of a Restricted Choice unit.
