This course is designed for students interested in working as a teacher in pre-school and primary school settings. It provides students with a sound theoretical base for teaching along with opportunities to develop a repertoire of practical skills.The course is carefully structured with a balance between theory and practice in teaching. Students engage in a series of education and curriculum study units clustered with appropriate professional experiences. This practical experience spans different levels and organisational modes of the pre-school and primary education setting. Students completing this course of study will be qualified to teach Preschool? Grade 6 specialising in 3-8 years of age.

Admission Requirements

Normal University of Canberra requirements for admission to an undergraduate course. International students must have an overall Academic IELTS band score of 7.5.

Additional Admission Requirements

All students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Teaching (3-8) degree are required to complete appropriate police checks or sign employment declaration forms prior to the commencement of their Professional Experience placement.

Students on entry to this course are advised to have the following:ACT: English (T with C minimum pass *) . NSW: Higher School Certificate English minimum Band 4 *.* 4796 Literacy for Teachers is a unit required in 1st year that bridges this requirement.

Students who are unable to complete a four-year Bachelor of Education degree may be eligible to exit the course after three years with a Bachelor of Educational Studies. To qualify for this award, students must have completed 72 credit points or more from the academic requirements of the four-year course as set out above. The Bachelor of Educational Studies is NOT professionally accredited and does not qualify students to teach in the ACT or New South Wales.
