Introduction
The Bachelor of Accounting is designed to meet the needs of students seeking accreditation with professional accounting associations. The program provides a strong dedicated focus on the key skills needed by professional accountants in areas specific to the accounting profession as well as key business skills such as critical thinking and research skills.

Admission Requirements
Normal UC admission requirements to an undergraduate course.
Assumed Knowledge
It is recommended that students have Mathematics T/Mathematic Applications (ACT) or Mathematics (NSW) and English (major) (ACT) or English Advanced (NSW), or their equivalents. International students need to meet the English language requirements of the University of Canberra.

Summary Graduates of the Bachelor of Accounting will have acquired an in-depth disciplinary knowledge and a cohesive set of cognitive, technical and generic skills in financial and management accounting, auditing, finance, systems theory, and law. The program is designed to produce graduates with the necessary skills and attributes to work as socially responsible professional accountants in the private and public sectors. This degree also prepares students for postgraduate studies. |

Knowledge Graduates who complete the Bachelor of Accounting will obtain: - an in-depth knowledge of relevant disciplinary theory and practice. - a broad understanding of concepts which are fundamental to accounting, such as statistics, commercial law, and information systems, plus the interrelations between government and business. |

Skills Graduates will develop: - the cognitive skills required to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize concepts and theories acquired in a number of discipline areas, including financial and management accounting, finance, statistics, systems theory, economics, and law. - the technical and generic skills required to apply discipline-specific technologies in. For example, students are required to complete a major assignment using an accounting software package, as well as using Microsoft Excel in a number of units. The latter is useful in finance when dealing with discounted cash flows, and in other areas, such as corporate accounting when dealing with impairment of assets, - the independent learning skills needed to stay up-to-date with advances in theoretical frameworks and professional practices after graduation - the personal skills required to provide professional advice in a socially responsible manner in a range of situations including statutory reporting, auditing, tax compliance, and budgeting. Graduates will be able to exercise critical thinking and applied analytical skills in identifying which information is relevant to specific decisions being made. They will also be able to identify whether they have all relevant information when advising clients or management, and have the ability to succinctly request or obtain missing information. - the communication skills needed to present a clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas to a variety of stakeholders using technical and non-technical language, depending on the audience. |

Application of knowledge and skills Graduates of the Bachelor of Accounting will be able to: - apply the knowledge and skills acquired to a diverse range of problems that early career accounting professionals would be expected to deal with. - demonstrate a capacity to exercise their own initiative and professional judgement in a socially responsible manner to analyse problems that are not clearly defined, complex, and require application of concepts in a variety of disciplinary and sub-disciplinary contexts. - Incorporate communication, applied research, teamwork, professionalism, and negotiation skills appropriate for professional services firms. |
