In April 2015, the University of Canberra applied to the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) for renewal of registration in the provider category 'Australian University'. In September 2015, TEQSA advised that the UC had received renewal of  registration for the maximum period of seven years, without conditions.

The University of Canberra was evaluated against the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2011 (a legislative instrument). UC is currently transitioning to the  Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2015, which was tabled in both houses of Parliament on 12 October 2015. The Framework will take effect as a legislative instrument from 1 January 2017.

Through previous audit processes (2008) by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA), the University of Canberra received renewal of registration for the maximum period of seven years, without conditions.
