Grimmond returns to lead UC in 2018 Uni 7s Series

7 June 2018: Former Australian rugby sevens player David Grimmond will again coach the University of Canberra in this year’s Uni 7s Series.

Grimmond returns to the helm after guiding the University to a fifth-place finish in the inaugural series in 2017.

“It’s great to be back working with the University of Canberra,” Grimmond said. “We had a lot of fun together last year and achieved some great results along the way.

“I’m looking forward to building on the progress we made in 2017 and getting the most out of this talented and committed group of women.”

The bulk of the University’s inaugural squad has returned for another year, but Grimmond said competition for jerseys would be fierce with the addition of some new talent.

“We’ve retained most of the squad we worked with last year which says a lot about the girls’ commitment to the team,” Grimmond said.

“There are a few fresh faces on the paddock and we’re stronger as a result. We’ve got a mix of seasoned rugby players as well as some women who are new to the sport.

“It’s an exciting group to be involved with and I’m looking forward to seeing what they’re capable of on match day.”

The University heads to Bendigo this weekend for a series of trial games against the University of Adelaide.

The 2018 Uni 7s Series kicks off later this year.
